We’re back today with another edition of “Get This Look”, where we give you tips, tricks, and shopping lists to recreate beautiful styles in your own home.
Today we’re focusing on the classic farmhouse design elements of the Fixer Upper Plain Jane House Kitchen.
As the name suggests, the house was very plain before Chip and Joanna got their hands on it.
However, by incorporating the homeowners’ love of traditional and antique styles, the kitchen has been dramatically updated!
Two Tone Painted Cabinets
Because the lower cabinets are a beautiful, bold blue peacock color, Joanna opted to keep the upper cabinets white.
However, by adding in pattern to the cabinet fronts, she was able to add in some architectural interest that was clearly missing before.
To get a color similar to the lower cabinets and island, we’d recommend a color like Benjamin Moore Dark Harbor.
Warm Wood and Metal Accents
The gold hexagon knobs (look-alike here) pop beautifully against this rich, saturated tone and add another gorgeous visual interest to this kitchen!
Joanna added a number of warm elements to the space, including the custom wood range hood, the beautiful brass pendants, and the school-house like barstools that combine wood and metal seamlessly!
These warm tones help create a cozy vibe in this family home while adding some great variety in textures.

White Tile Backsplash
If you look closely, the backsplash utlizes a white diamond shape ceramic tile for a unique, almost quilt-like backsplash. We found a similar tile here.
This twist on the traditional white subway tile backsplash gives a bit of extra custom style, and taking the backsplash to the ceiling puts it, well, over the top!
Modern Farmhouse Kitchen Decor Shopping List
For a home that was previously plain, the Fixer Upper Plain Jane House Kitchen is now anything but plain! The modern farmhouse style is gorgeous and homey.

I love this kitchen. I love the color of the bottom cabinets and especially, the top white ones. Beautiful.
I’m curious about the wall color that goes so well with that peacock blue.
Hi Stacy – great question! It looks like it could be the very popular and versatile Silver Strand by Sherwin-Williams (maybe at 75-50%?)… though by that time, Joanna had launched her paint brand so it could also be one of those colors from her collection, too! I wish I knew for sure but that’s the best I can guess.

Post is really good but those chairs are beautiful…
