Wood Slice Wreath Instructions

Step 1: Lay out wood slices

Start by laying out all the wood pieces to see how they will fit on the wreath form. Make adjustments if needed to ensure the wreath is covered evenly.

For a well-filled wood slice wreath, use two layers of wood slices. Place the first layer of wood slices on the bottom with spaces between, then add a second layer of slices on top to cover the gaps, so the outer edges are all basically aligned.

Note: You can leave one wooden slice without overlapping (and save those pieces for another craft) since this area will be covered by the bow and greenery.

Step 2: Glue wood slices

Apply hot glue to the wire wreath form or flat wooden wreath form and firmly press a wood slice on top.

Repeat this process until the entire wreath form is covered in the bottom layer of wood slices.

If the hot glue doesn’t seem to hold strong enough, attach a zip tie or floral wire to the wood slice to attach to the wreath form. You can use glue or drill small holes through the wood slice.

Step 3: Lay out the faux greenery

Lay out the greenery and place the bow on top to visualize the design.

Common Questions about Winter Wood Slice Wreaths

  1. Can I use hang a wood slice wreath outdoors?
    • This wreath is best suited for indoor use since the wood may weather and crack if exposed to rain and snow and exposure to the elements. If you’d like to use it outdoors, place it in a sheltered location and assemble the wreath using wood glue or an exterior rated adhesive instead of hot glue.
  2. How can I prevent the wood slices from falling off?
    • Ensure you use enough hot glue to firmly attach the wood slices to the wreath form. Press them down until they adhere securely.
  3. Can I use a different base instead of a wire wreath form?
    • Yes, you can use alternatives like foam wreath forms or even a circular piece of cardboard.
  4. What’s the best way to hang the wreath?
    • Attach a ribbon or a piece of jute twine to the back of the wreath with a loop for hanging. You can also use a wreath hanger for easy display.
  5. Can I use real greenery for this wreath?
    • While it’s possible to use real greenery, keep in mind that it will dry out and may not last as long. Artificial greenery is a more practical choice.
  6. How long does it take to make this wreath?
    • The time required depends on your crafting experience, but it typically takes a couple of hours to complete this project.
