How to make a gluten free apple crisp
If you are new to this whole world of gluten free baking, then you are probably a bit nervous. How are you supposed to make a flourless apple crisp after all?
Well, the secret to making a perfect gluten free apple crisp is using oats. A combination of oat flour and oats makes for a perfect gluten-free crumble.
To make the oat flour you just need to process your favorite gluten-free oats for a bit in your blender or food processor so it resembles sand.
Then we mix the oat flour with the oats, add some spices, a bit of brown sugar and some butter and your crispy topping is ready to bake.
For the filling, we mix some sliced apples with a bit of cornstarch, spices and a good squeeze of lemon juice. You can also add a drizzle of caramel if you are feeling like it.
Then it’s just a matter of placing the apples in the casserole dish, topping it with the crisp and baking everything for around 40 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
How to serve apple crisp?
The best way to eat it is straight out of the oven when it’s still super hot and with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.
This gluten free apple crisp is also delicious served warm with a good dollop of whipped cream and some chopped nuts.
And you can also make single-serving apple crisps by baking it in small ramekin bowls.
Whichever option you pick trust me when I say this is going to become a staple recipe in your household.
