Best Blue-Gray Paint Colors
When you’re seeking the perfect blue-gray color for your walls or cabinets, you want to find the color that is the right balance of blue and gray while also being the right tone (lightness or darkness) for your room. Each blue-gray shade has a different level of gray undertones to balance the blue color.
We shared our favorite green-gray paint colors awhile back, and those green undertones are a great choice for giving a cooler calming effect to entryways, bathrooms, and living rooms, plus any other rooms in your home where you want a versatile but neutral backdrop.
In 2024, many of the paint colors of the year, though, are trending toward BLUE with gray undertones! So we’ve pulled together the best blue-gray paint colors from our recent home show tours and our blogging friends to show you the versatility of this color on cabinets, accent walls, and more.
Looking for darker classic blues? Try these 11 best dark blue paint colors.
As with any and all paint colors, these blue gray tones should be tested in the specific room and lighting situation. A great color in a room with a lot of natural light may have more blue tones in a room with only artificial lighting, or vice versa: the perfect color in a windowless bathroom may appear completely different in a situation with plenty of natural light. Remember – north facing rooms read cooler, while south-facing rooms will read warmer!
A paint color swatch is too small to really show you what the color will look like, so we recommend picking up a large peel and stick paint sample or painting a sample board. (Read more in How to Test a Paint Color Before You Buy It.)

What is Light Reflective Value (LRV)?
LRV is a value (0-100) commonly used by design professionals to represent what percentage of the light a surface reflects. LRV 0 is absolute black and LRV 100 is pure white. A lower LRV will give a darker, moodier vibe, where a higher LRV will be more light and airy.
Knowing the LRV of a paint color can help you decide if it is right for your room, lighting situation and mood. The LRV can be helpful in comparing similar paint colors, too, so we include this value for each paint color when available.
Note: On some of the photos from our local home shows, we were unable to find the exact paint color so we used a paint color matching app to find a close match 🤞. These are noted as “lookalike paint colors” with an *asterisk in the caption.
Soft Blue Gray Paint Colors
From the living room to the bedroom or the bathroom, these lighter shades of blue gray provide elegance and relaxation. These light blue paint colors with their cool undertone are stunning yet calming neutral colors for walls and cabinets.
Sherwin-Williams Upward
This light blue is the Color of the Year for 2024 from Sherwin-Williams and it is gorgeous! Upward is a balanced light blue gray paint color that grounds the room. This color is delicate but has a strong blue undertone; if you want more gray, try North Star, and for more blue, try Moonmist.
Behr Urban Raincoat
This rainy-day blue gray paint color has just a little edge of smoke to neutralize the tone and make a gorgeous barely-there accent color.
Sherwin-Williams Silver Strand
This mild light gray paint color has green undertones with just a touch of blue, so it looks beautiful in full natural light or all artificial light. Read more about Silver Strand in the Paint Color Spotlight.
Sherwin-Williams Silvermist
Silvermist by Sherwin-Williams (not to be confused with the similarly named and toned Silver Mist by Benjamin Moore) is a gorgeous silver gray with blue undertones that looks lovely with warmer wood tones, and, as you can see below, also pairs nicely with the gray-green tones of Sherwin-Williams Oakmoss.

Behr NorWester
Nor’Wester is a beautifully stormy mid-toned blue-gray that will look great on walls (including shiplap!) or cabinets and trim.
Benjamin Moore Water’s Edge
This blue-gray paint color has just a tinge of green undertones to make it a practically perfect hint of blue in any room. For a deeper blue-green, try Benjamin Moore’s Aegean Teal which is similar but more of a green-gray.
Valspar Renew Blue
Valspar chose Renew Blue as their Color of the Year for 2024 and I can’t get enough of this aqua with gray undertones. The gray turns the balanced blue-green paint color into a muted neutral that will look wonderful in so many spaces.
This color is similar to one of our favorites, Benjamin Moore’s Wythe Blue, and will respond similarly to changing light circumstances, so be sure to read the Wythe Blue Paint Color Spotlight here, too.
Benjamin Moore Beach Glass
Another of our favorite paint colors, Beach Glass by Benjamin Moore is a muted neutral blue-green with gray undertones. This combination of hues means that this color can change dramatically depending on the lighting, so be sure to read the Beach Glass Paint Color Spotlight and use a large sample to ensure this color pleases you from dawn to dusk (and beyond!)
Benjamin Moore Province Blue
Continuing with the muted blue green and gray tones, Province Blue is a lovely medium blue-green that will look stunning on kitchen cabinets or as an accent wall. You can see in the photo below how it leans more gray in brighter light (on the base cabinets) and more toward blue-green in lower light (on the upper cabinet).
Farrow & Ball Light Blue
This light blue just looks gray in most lights – but Farrow & Ball Light Blue has blue undertones that will shine through in the right light! This gorgeous gray-blue will look wonderful with brass accents like this wall mirror.
Benjamin Moore Coventry Gray
For another medium gray that has only slight undertones, turn to Coventry Gray by Benjamin Moore. This is an all-star gray paint color that leans slightly blue in natural light, while still leaning warm in artificial light. Read more in our Benjamin Moore Coventry Gray Paint Color Spotlight.
Medium to Dark Blue-Gray Paint Colors
To make more of a statement, these darker shades of blue-gray are some of the best paint colors for wall accent color or for a kitchen island or cabinets.
Benjamin Moore Blue Nova
As Benjamin Moore’s Color of the Year 2024, this gorgeous deep Blue Nova leans toward gray and is a practically perfect navy that coordinates well with warmer earth tones.
Sherwin-Williams Smoky Blue
Smoky Blue is even more saturated than Blue Nova and leans even more toward gray – very similar to Benjamin Moore’s Hale Navy that we discussed here.
Behr Blueprint
As its name suggests, Blueprint is a dusty blue-gray that pulls its name from the Prussian blue of architectural prints. This steel-blue is a gorgeous medium-toned blue that is lighter and calming in brighter natural light, and deeper and moodier in low light.
Sherwin-Williams Grays Harbor
This deep slate blue gray paint color will look wonderful on kitchen cabinets and pairs nicely with warm whites and warm wood tones.
Sherwin-Williams Blue Mystery
Blue Mystery by HGTV for Sherwin-Williams is a mid-toned blue-gray that looks stunning here! This color is now discontinued, but it is a near dead-ringer for Waterloo by Sherwin-Williams.
Sherwin-Williams Mineral Gray
Mineral Gray is a deep and moody navy blue gray paint color, ideal for cabinets, trim, and exteriors. In lower light, the gray stands out, while in more natural light, the muted blue shines.
Benjamin Moore Charlotte Slate
Also known as Providence Blue (not to be confused with Province Blue above), Charlotte Slate is a heritage blue-gray that looks refined and combines well with many shades of white and wood tones.
Sherwin-Williams Azure Tide
As its name implies, this is a rich medium coastal blue with gray undertones to keep it muted while still staying true to the blue base.
Sherwin-Williams Dress Blues
If you’re looking for a deeply saturated classic blue, look no further than Dress Blues by Sherwin-Williams! This bold blue paint color is a great candidate for a neutral navy blue.
Sherwin-Williams Lupine
If you’re looking for a muted blue that doesn’t lean quite so gray, Lupine has violet undertones that make it gorgeous in the right lighting! This color doesn’t look purple to me, even though the folks at SW catalog it as such… what do you think?
Benjamin Moore Polo Blue
This muted gray blue is so deep to look almost black! The slate gray of Polo Blue looks stunning with the upper white cabinets, with warm accents like brass handles and butcherblock wood countertops to balance this kitchen renovation.
Romabio Blue Ridge Parkway
For a black that isn’t, look for a saturated slate gray-blue paint color like Blue Ridge Parkway by Romabio. Use light-colored accents and gold or brass hardware for a stunning look like this.
